Fishing techniques teasers and baits
Chumming
Chum is a mixte made of small pieces of fish, blood and fish oil,
generally used when fishing for sharks and predators when drifting or at anchor. Chumming is to call the fish with the smell and make them loose temper
and rush for eat. Chum can also be used together with small pieces of fish.
Sharks react strongly to the smell, while Dorado and several species of Tuna
react more on the pieces of fish falling through the different water level.
Chum has to be prepared home and frozen in blocks or bags.
These blocks are then put in a net on the current diffusing all those delicate aromas
for the predators through the bag the chum slowly dissolve and let out a trail in the sea.If the chum is mostly made of blood and oil some sand
can be mixed with it to make iot heavier in a way to make it sink slowly.
Bridle Rigging and live bait
This way of rigging live fish for trolling is one of the simplest techniques.
It is also one of the most productive rigs in the golf of Siam area,
when targeting Sailfish and Marlin.
Drop Back
Trolling live or dead bait with a drop back is generally used when looking for billfish.
A rubber band is attached to the mainline at the wanted distance from the bait.
This band is then attached to the release clip on the outrigger.
From the release clip the mainline hangs loosely in a desired length to the rod tip.
When the billfish strikes the bait, the rubber band snaps thereby giving the fish
time to turn and swallow the bait before the line is taken back and the hook is set.
Teasers
Bird teasers, which are wooden or plastic lures with a wing on each side.
The wings give life to the fish-shaped body so it looks like a desperate
flying fish trying to lift off the surface bird teasers can be trolled
separately or with a lure. They got best results in calm seas with a boat speed between 4 and 8 knots. Usually one, daisy chain is trolled from each corner of the boat, with the bait or rampalla set outside of each chain and one trailing behind the last lure in the chains.
Fishing methods:
Drifting or at anchor with small live fish, squid or prawn.
Jigging over wrecks or deep water reefs. Teaser are used to attract fish to the boat and excite them to strike. They work by splashing and flashing on the surface. As you drift or slow troll over an area of sand or mud bottom,
you bounce the sinker on the bottom by lifting and dropping the rod tip.
This way the sinker will create a sound, vibrations and clouds of silt
that attracts bottom feeding predators. As they get closer,
the reflect of the metal dodger also helps trigger the strike.
Chum can be prepared from home and frozen in blocks.
These blocks are then put in a semi-submerged net or bucket
with holes, where they slowly dissolve and let out a trail in the water.
If the chum mostly consists of blood and oil a bit of sand
can be mixed with it to bind and make it sink slowly.
